Talk:The Village
From The Village Wiki
I've now posted all three of the photos related to The Village that I found, scanned and uploaded. I'm a bit puzzled as to who stole them out of my desk and why. The file cabinet I found them in is also missing now! Weird. --ConcernedCitizen 15:37, June 12, 2009 (EST)
I've posted the latest two photos and a couple of things jump out at me. I wondered if 'Two' was a person, department, building, or group related to the Village. I'm more convinced that Two might actually be a person due to the latest photo of the door. Labeling it 93's door implies that the door belongs to a person, and that 93, like Two, might possibly be an actual person.
What is really worries me is that I do think there is a connection to my job. I'd been hired for my excellence at 'pattern recognition.' I've always been good at it. One of the software suites we use helps one assesses flight risk for felons, using abstracted social modeling. You just plug in the numbers, look for the results in the data. In order to protect the subjects we were given anonymized data. Their names were just random numbers.
That's what I thought at first. Because now I'm almost certain I've seen the number 93 before. I'll have to see if I can access the files from a couple weeks ago and go back through them. I guess that could be somewhat risky. But I hate the idea that maybe, because of some analysis I did, somewhere someone is being affected. No one's fate should be affected by being reduced to some symbols someone else manipulates on a computer! ConcernedCitizen 14:00, July 24th, 2009 (EST)
Why are you accepting the photos as irrefutable? Isn't it possible that the photos have been altered? For example, if the bus photo has been mirrored, then a left hand drive bus would become a right hand drive bus. Rover1984 15:06, July 24th, 2009 (CDT)
Rover1984: it's possible the photos have been altered, but the picture of the numerals 93 on the door aren't swapped, so why should we assume that other pictures are? ConcernedCitizen 08:53, July 29, 2009 (EST)
ConcernedCitizen: Why assume they either all have to be altered or all unaltered? When I tell a fictional story based on a real event, I keep facts that fit and alter those that don't. Rover1984 10:00, July 29, 2009 (CDT)
Rover1984: why assume some are altered and others are not unless some evidence shows up that indicates that? Until then, I'll proceed under the assumption that they aren't based on what evidence I have. ConcernedCitizen 03:24, July 30, 2009 (EST)
A note on the "perspective" label of the images: it seems to me as if all of these images are taken from "human" height, as security cameras generally have a much higher downward viewing angle to them. Is it possible that the mentioned numbers are guards or other staff who are keeping watch on their peers? Although I suppose that a number of people carrying around cameras at all times would surely be noticed in the Village. I don't currently know of any technology capable of turning the human eye into a camera, although that's almost what it seems like. Perhaps something like a mini-camera set into the frame of eyeglasses? Degravedi 12:56, August 3, 2009 (EST)
Great analysis! ConcernedCitizen 11:32, August 4th, 2009 (EST)
I've been looking at pictures of buses for an hour, trying to find a logo that matches the one in the screenshot, but no luck so far. Based on the size and location of the logo, it's probably for the company running the buses and not the manufacturer. The design of the bus looks pretty old, possibly from the '50s or '60s. The fact that I'm now getting items emailed to me makes me think that maybe someone else inside my own company has found this wiki or is at least aware of what it is I'm searching the company intranets for. So far the person seems to be helping me, sending along this photo and warning me to be careful. I would assume it means that some of the same surveillance tools we develop might be pointed inside the company.
I will have to be more careful about my search for answers. But I'm more interested now than ever to find out what The Village is.--ConcernedCitizen 03:02, August 21, 2009 (EST)
Has the unpleasant thought that these wormcams might be surgical implants occurred to anyone else? Suddenly the "perspective" labels and their potential meaning seems quite ominous.... No. 6TS
