Interviewing

[edit] Notes From The Wiki Founder: Interviewing by ConcernedCitizen 18:16, October 16th, 2009 (EST)
I have to admit to being frustrated by the fact that I’m basically spying on people for reasons I know nothing about. Earlier this week, after spending hours watching the veteran do physical therapy at a pool, then lift weights with manic determination, I realized that this was eating at me.
That night I started looking for a new job. Combed the classifieds and put my resume back out there. Wall Street is starting to recover somewhat, maybe I’d be able to get back into an accountant’s position somewhere. Pattern recognition skills or not, I’m not sure what I’m bringing to the table writing daily reports on what these four people are doing.
I particularly don’t think I’m being too helpful when I don’t know what I’m even supposed to really be watching for.
At lunch on Wednesday I took the time to ride down to a couple offices on Wall Street. I even petted the bull statue for good luck.
The interviews were the usual. I know I’m up against a lot of other rootless and desperate finance types. But it was worth a shot, and the interviewers were friendly. There was a difference in atmosphere, I can’t quite put a finger on it. But it cemented by desire to end what I’m currently doing.
I had another interview yesterday. An accountant for a small business. A humble job, I’d have to even help the owner’s family members on their individual taxes. But sitting in the tiny back office as customers chatted and the bell tied to the glass door dinged, I realized that I would gain a lot more out doing that than sitting in front of monitors all day.
But when I got back from that interview, the red headed security guard was waiting for me.
“I don’t have any coffee for you,” I joked.
But she didn’t laugh. “They want to talk to you up at Human Resources,” she told me.
“Okay, I’ll go there.”
“I’ll take you up.”
I felt like I was being escorted up like some common criminal. I was a bit nervous. Was I being fired? Had they found out about the wiki?
I wasn’t fired. But they knew that I was interviewing. HR didn’t come out and say it, but as I sat down in the office, door closed, the lady there asked a lot of pointed questions about my ‘satisfaction’ with the job. It was awkward, but it was also clear that I was being served notice that they were paying attention.
What I want to know is who tipped them off? I’m betting it wasn’t the small diner. When I got back to my desk and started searching through the shared server space for the company. I found an unlabeled photo. The architecture in it is strikingly similar to the other shots we’ve seen of The Village so far, so I’d tentatively say it’s a Village photo. Can anyone identify this style of architecture? It has to be fairly unique. I think I’m going to show it to a friend of mine who works for an architecture firm to see what he says.
Meanwhile, I’m wondering whether or not to continue looking for jobs?
