How to use this wiki
From The Village Wiki
[edit] How to use a general mediawiki:
This wiki uses a standard mediawiki setup (just like Wikipedia). You can see detailed instructions at the Wikimedia help page.
[edit] You need a login to participate:
Due to the potentially sensitive nature of this information and trying to collect further information, contributers need to sign up for a login to make changes to the wiki. But doing so will enable you to get notified whenever new media or information gets posted.
[edit] Getting email notifications:
Once you have signed up for a login, you will notice in addition to the 'pages' and 'discussion' and 'edit' tabs at the top of each wiki article, there is also now a 'watch' tab. Click on this to track a page (for example changes to The Village page will let you know when new photos or info arrive). To get email alerts about a change, click on my preferences and scroll down to choose to have email alerts sent to you when pages are changed.
[edit] How information about The Village is marked:
Information on this wiki that is verified via photos or other media confirmed to be related to The Village will be tagged with a green button. Information that is less credible: yellow. Red buttons will tag misleading or radically unconfirmed information. Polls are also available to let us vote on larger facts. Polls will be retired when new information comes to light, so that we can vote on new facts.
Underneath the facts area of many of the wiki pages will be an area for people to add analysis. This can consist of anything anyone can apply to the known facts to try and glean a better understanding of The Village.
[edit] How to use polls:
To create a poll to let people vote on a piece of data, you need to put this code into the 'edit' area of a page:
< POLL >
Put your questions here on the first line
Choice #1: put in text for choice #1 here
Choice #2: put in text for choice #2 here
Choice #3: put in text for choice #3 here
< /POLL >
Once you've put this code in, delete the spaces before and after the word POLL and /POLL.
Congratulations, you've created a poll.
Make sure the question you have on the first line is the final wording you want, if you change it, the poll resets and starts over.
